The unity ceremony symbolizes the blending of two individuals becoming one. 

Some couples choose to each light a small candle, then their individual light would light a third larger candle, forming a new light symbolizing the blending of two to become one.  Other families choose a sand blending ceremony which  can involve members of  family too , therefore  marking the unity that now exists between two families.  

 A handfasting ceremony has its roots in ancient Celtic tradition, symbolizing the binding together of two people (and the origin of the phrase "tying the knot!"). While it is most often included in Wiccan or Pagan ceremonies, today, it has become more mainstream and pops up alongside both religious and secular vows and readings.   Couples can  choose cords of colour to represent the things they feel are most important in their lives  as a married couple.

  This is an adaptation an old African-American tradition to jump over a broom on your wedding day. The broom symbolizes the sweeping away of the past and the fact that you are now starting a new life together – as a happy married couple.

 Starting a new life with another person does require a leap of faith, and by taking this leap, the couple show their dedication to work together through all of life’s circumstances.

The box contains a bottle of wine, two glasses, and a love letter from each to the other. Heartfelt letters, encapsulating your thoughts and feelings are locked away in a wine box to be revealed at a later time in your marriage. 

Many couples choose to open this on their 1st anniversary which is paper.

Traditionally, thirteen gold coins (arras) are given to the bride by the bridegroom, signifying his willingness to support her financially. Each coin representing the months of the year and the 13th to gift to the poor. 

Nowadays there are many different ways of modernizing the tradition such as  involving some of your friends and family members by include them in this ceremony.  

12 friends or relatives come forward place the coins into a box whilst saying a word to the couple which their coin represents, and say a few lines about what they felt the word signified for the couple.
